Master Key and  the Security/Safety Key

In order to activate and operate the Catalyst Control Console, you need to possess the Security/Safety key.

Without the Security/Safety key (Red), the only thing possible to do with the CCC is turn it on.  Beyond that, it will refuse to allow any further actions.

The Master Key (Blue) is used only to program a new/different Security/Safety Key to the specific CCC.  The Master Key is typically kept at the home office in a safe location.

This Security/Safety Key is an electronic device that is used to unlock the Catalyst Control Console and it is typically carried by the Security and/or Safety Pyrotechnician.  This individual is charged with the duty of being in control of the CCC and as such protects anyone in the danger zone (where the pyrotechnics & Firing Modules would be located) by being the only person with the ability to advance the state of the CCC to the next higher "danger" level.  This unique key is truly unique as in there is only one like it on the planet.  No duplicates allowed.  The ultimate in "Lock-out Tag-out" technology.

Each "Key" contains a unique 64-bit code that allows over 281,474,900,000,000 (yes, that's over 281 TRILLION different codes) and is laser programmed and guaranteed to be unique. No locksmith can help you out here. No chance of two people running around with duplicate keys either.  End of discussion.

Blue Master key, Red Security key

Each CCC is shipped with a Master Key and a Security/Safety Key.  Each CCC has its own unique Master Key that it will recognize, but it is possible to reprogram the CCC to use a different Master Key if so desired.

When the CCC is sent out to do a show, it must be sent out with the Security/Safety key that it has been programmed to use.  Without the Security/Safety key, there will be no show. No backdoors, no workarounds. Safety is the number one priority.
